"It is not a revolution to liberate one species on the backs of all other species"
Speech I stumbled across by Dr. Steven Best. Friends viewing who are not Vegan, maybe only watch the first half or so (if you're interested)....Vegans go ahead and watch the whole thing!
Here we are presented with the hard truths about Veganism. We are a tiny, tiny minority. We have no power. Our "enemies" are so powerful and only get stronger, more powerful and more rich by the day. So, what can we do? How do we be more relevant? How do we fight the war for EVERYONE that only a few people seem to care about?
That's the truth (in my opinion). Ultimately Vegans are fighting a war for all humans, all animals and our whole planet. We have taken on the information about climate change, land usage, deforestation, fossil fuels, the animal holocaust and health and decided to DO SOMETHING while more people just turn a blind eye and continue doing the same things over and over again. Although: as Steven Best says, is simply ABSTAINING from meat and dairy actually DOING anything at all? It's a sad thought. Ultimately am I achieving anything by not eating these things? Probably not. All I am doing is relieving my own conscience.
So I end up selfish? Giving up things that taste delicious to me and make my life so simple in the name of not being selfish, I somehow loop back to only doing this things to make myself feel better? Good lord...
What I have to do (according to Steve) is more action. If you care so much about animals, go and adopt one from a shelter. If you care so much about the planet, join hands with "environmentalists" and help get our Vegan numbers up that way.
Here is the speech.....I've jotted down one of my favourite quotes below:
"We are the only movement with a non-violent ethic. Because leftists believe in killing animals so long as you do it humanely. That is the highest conciousness they can raise. That they can rise to. Environmentalists believe in hunting and killing and eating animals so long as you do it "sustainably" and keep the populations in tact. Well we believe in the value of each and every individual and sentient life and we are completely unique in that. So that's the good news.....we are indispensable to a viable future."
